WHAT, WHEN, HOW?

WHEN TO WEAR A COMPRESSION GARMENT?

Most surgeons advise patients to wear medical compression garments for several weeks after surgery. Some patients may need to wear the garment day and night, while others may need to wear it for a few hours during the day.

HOW LONG SHOULD THE COMPRESSION GARMENT BE WORN?

The surgeon will determine the exact length of time that a compression garment should be worn following surgery.

It is recommended to wear a compression garment for 4-6 weeks after liposuction to minimize post-operative swelling and prevent rippling.

Examples

• After abdominoplasty, which is an extensive operation, it is often recommended by surgeons to wear a lap belt for up to 6 weeks after the procedure to control swelling and help the scar tissue to distribute properly.
• After a breast augmentation, a postoperative bra is most often recommended for 2 to 3 weeks. This will support the breast tissue and keep the implants in the right position during the adaptation and healing phase of the tissues.
